Breakfast for A Couch

13 Sep

Dear Becky,

Funny that you should point a finger at upholstered furniture in your criticism of the fantasy home sold by our friends Ina Garten and Sheila Lukins.   As it happens, when I read the post I was just starting to catch my breath from heaving a beautifully upholstered couch up to our top story (walk-up) apartment.

Originally we were just going to drop it off in our basement, as that would have required NO STAIRS, and here it was 9:40PM on a Sunday night with our Zipcar rental due to expire at 10:00; but one of our kind and lovely neighbors decided to park his Buick in front of the back entrance.   After a brief moment insanity wherein we considered lifting this tank of a couch over the hood of the Buick and through the basement door, we had no choice but to take it in the front door, and up to our apartment right away (after first returning the Zipcar with no time to spare).

Something was pretty funny about all of this to one of the members of the DCPD who offered to help carry the couch – we declined, but he did hold the door open for us and chuckled to himself the whole time in this high-pitched, out of breath, perfectly delightful kind of way.

Okay, so long story longer, this morning I am celebrating this lovely, upholstered sofa and my first Monday at my new job by having a delicious and balanced breakfast.  Give this one a shot.  Sweet and, creamy, it will take you through day.

Breakfast for a Couch

breakfast on the sofa

½ c plain yogurt

½ c raw oats

¼ c raw nuts (walnuts, almonds, pecans or a mix)

½ c fruit (a combo of strawberries, blooobs, and cherries is divine, but work with what you have)

Drizzle of something sweet – Pure Maple Syrup, Honey, or Agave Necter

I found this picture in the Life Magazine archives and thought it was hilarious and perfect for your post.

Happy first Monday! …and new couch. Are you guys getting into the home decor spirit?

Also, I want to see pictures of your new place, couch included! No pressure, though. I know you’re a busy squirrel.
